software for ripping a dvd

Does anyone know any good software for ripping DVDs, preferrably to mpg/ogm files? I've been searching linuxquestions and google and found nothing (at least nothing simple).

there is a package called "perl-Video-DVDRip". you can get it from dag-rpm repository

Mencoder is probably the best out there and it comes with mplayer. There are a few frontends for it if you dont like to use the command line. You can search mencoder at freshmeat and they will turn up.

I tried installing it but couldn't manage to get all the packages installed. There are too many dependencies for me.

I'll try mencoder soon. I already have it installed.

If you get mencoder going, there is a frontend for it
called "ACIDRIP"

http://acidrip.thirtythreeandathird.net/

I can't tell you much about it as I've only played with it
once or twice.

I've been ripping vobs with the command line program "vobcopy".
It's easy and fast. I then do any format conversions or splitting with
"Avidemux". However Avidemux uses "Transcode" just like "DVDRip"
and you will need to satisfy several deps. (various encoders mostly)
Doing a ./configure of transcode will tell you what it wants.
