Software for Maginon FS500 slide/35mm scanner

My Maginon FS500 slide/35mm scanner is not recognised by scanner software, I assume this is because it is not a "Sane" device. In fact it isn't really a scanner, it doesn't scan! It has a 5Mp camera, which may be why Cheese Webcam Booth can see it as a USB 2.0 device. Unfortunately the image quality is only about 1/4Mp and the setting is fixed.

It looks as though I need to use webcam or video software that works in a similar way to Cheese, I have tried a few without success - any recommendations?

Film scanners are not generic. The low demand prevents open-source development of Linux drivers. It takes money to develop film scanner drivers for Linux. Vuescan works with Linux, and supports many scanners, including film scanners.

But is has no Maginon drivers. I don't think your scanner will work presently with Linux.

I eventually tried this on Windows7 and the file size was only 1/2MB so I concluded that it was a crap scanner and gave it away :)
