Each distribution typically has it's own very comprehensive repostiory of software that is easy to install through the package management system that distribution uses.
I cannot say any specifics about SuSE, which appears to be what you are using.
Example (that won't really apply to your situaton really, but that still can show a point of what I am trying to say):
For Debian, which I use:
Available packages: http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages#search_packages
And everything from there is easily installable through apt-get install packagename
Consult the documentation for your distribution regarding equivalent package listings and installation methods.
you can download any distro's software that has a compatible package system in your case RPMS will work but be careful of ones that compiled special, just go after generic apps common to all distros that use rpms and you should be safe. Also you are not limited to RPMs you can download Source's and compile them very easily.
If you tweak a little bit SuSE's Yast, it will be able to download and install packages (as well as the dependencies) without any problems. Here is a way to do that:
