so Xfburn and Brasero can't burn audio to DVDs?

Of course Xfburn can burn ISOs to DVDs; that's how I make my liveDVDs. But for the first time, I tried to burn audio (a large music collection, 150 or so MP3s) to a DVD. I hoped Xfburn would treat the DVD as just a huge CD. It didn't work. First of all, it says I may have only 99 files. Second, for seemingly random MP3s in the collection, Xfburn keeps saying "resource unavailable." Third...it finally just wouldn't let me burn to the DVD, by disabling the button.

I tried Brasero, but it won't burn audio to a DVD either. It just disables the burn button.

So, are the programs simply not designed to burn audio to DVD? Maybe because the creators had CDs in mind for music? If that's the case, oh, well, I certainly don't have to burn to a DVD. Hmm...I thought the programs said the collection was around 900 MB, so perhaps I could fit the collection on one CD if I cut some of it. ...No, 990 MB. Still--

DVD doesn't carry audio the way CD's do, it is a wholly different medium.
I believe (but don't quote me) that programs that can create the SACD (Super Audio CD, in fact files on a DVD) format will work on a DVD.
But in generaL the DVD format (video too) is quite a different format then ISO-9660 for CDrom OR the continuous audio stream for "pure audio" CD's (and even those already are quite different from each other).
So you cannot write .wav files or such on a DVD
ISO-9660, although not designed FOR it, will - again as far as I know - work for a DVDrom, not an audio DVD (and the 99 files limits is because of the directory size of the DVD fs).

You can make a data DVD out of mp3 files. You can make folders with artist names for example and put the mp3's into the correct folders. Or the songs on an album into a folder. I don't remember there being a 99 file limit.
Let me see... I've got a DVD like that here somewhere...let me mount it...
Code:
find ~/dvd -type f | wc -l
1020

find ~/dvd -type d | wc -l
103
That one has 1000 mp3's on it, and 100 directories.

Make an .iso first, the way that you want it, then burn it.

For example:
Code:
genisoimage -o out.iso -J -r -pad -graft-points fred/=/path/files wilma/=/path/files barney/=/path/files
Check the .iso with mount -loopback
Then once you make an .iso the way that you want it, burn the .iso to DVD.
Code:
growisofs -dvd-compat -speed=8 -use-the-force-luke=tty -Z /dev/sr0=/path/file.iso
You can also just burn a bunch of files.
Code:
growisofs -use-the-force-luke=tty -Z /dev/sr0 -J -r -speed=8 -dvd-compat -pad -graft-points /path/file1.avi /path/file2.avi
As for Xfburn, Brasero, don't know them.
