So is Redhat done with desktop distros?

I've been meaning to post this for months. Ever since i heard they pulled there distro from stores Im curious as to weather or not they will continue releasing a desktop distro. It's not that I only use redhat but i definitely like how easy/fast it was to setup for a desktop user and they also contributed much towards improving the desktop, esp in gnome (thats my favorite bloaty desktop).

Any word? Any RH developers here? I'd like to know if I can expect a Redhat v10

It will henceforth be called Fedora, but essentially it is the Red Hat non-enterprise version. Look at the write-up towards the top of the Red Hat forum.

f**k RedHat. I'm fed up with them.

I've been using it since 1996 (5.1, 5.2, 6.1, 6.2, 7, 7.3, 8, AS2.1....), and I don't think it is really needed for a desktop with MDK, etc.. around-

And I'm not even talking about AS2.1 !!! How can I explain my bosses why RHAS2.1 freezes once a month when I've been telling them that linux stays up for years ???

Yes, now it's out RHAS 3.... lets try and see.
Fed up with it. Really.

No - there won't be a Red Hat 10 - however, you can look at the first release of Fedora as "Red Hat 10" .

Have a look at this site for more info:

That's why I decided to switch to FreeBSD. Now I've installed FreeBSD on my secondary PC and getting familier with it. After a month or so, I will replace redhat 9 on my main PC with FreeBSD.

Exactly the opposite - they're getting rich off of corporations and don't want to be bothered with small-fry lusers.

It's just their stratagy changes. They just change the name "Redhat" to "Fedora" for the free distribution, and it will be going on like usual. But they keep the name "redhat" only for the enterprise distribution. Actually the
"Fedora" project is also controlled by them. The technologies in "Fedora" releases will eventually end up in the Redhat enterprise releases. It's just like "Openoffice" and "Staroffice".

I see it as a good thing. It may not keep Bill up at night (not yet anyway), but he might just start glancing over his shoulder. And yes, for the desktop user, there's Fedora.

In terms of stability and reliability, yes, Enterprise edition is far more better. That's what enterprise edition is for. Make changes carefully and test carefully with a very long release cycle 12 to 18 months.
