I have rh-9, got wine installed, used version wine-20030813-1rh9winehq.i386.rpm
I have a dosc partition with xp on it and I'm wondering if wine can run from that.

You have to make a configuration file. Make a folder in your home directory called ".wine". This is where you put the file "config". There is a ready-made sample file, it should be in "/usr/docs/wine-20030813/samples". Not sure if the folder is called "wine-20030813", but it will start with "wine". Copy the sample file to the ".wine" folder you made, and adjust it to your liking with the help of the manual page "wine.conf". After that, you can run windows programs using the command "wine <program>". You can adjust kde/gnome to run them on click.
