Question Snmptrap Receipient


Hi Guys

I want to configure my Centos 4.3 machine to receive snmptraps from snmp trap enabled devices.Can some body guide me , a pointer or link would be enough .

the standard net-snmp package on your distro cd's / dvd / yum contains the most common trap reciever daemon, snmptrapd, as well as documentation for it.

can you tell me which package i need to install to get snmptrapd.conf.Also is there any good howto available for that

Hi Guys

I figure out that net-snmp package is required for snmptrapd.conf an d i can create file from snmpconf cmd.But when i run this cmd it ask me sequence of questions which i am not sure about

Select File: 2

The configuration information which can be put into snmptrapd.conf is divided
into sections. Select a configuration section for snmptrapd.conf
that you wish to create:

1: Output formatting for traps received.
2: Trap Handlers

Other options: finished

Select section:


When i select or type 1

Select section: 1

Section: Output formatting for traps received.
Description:
Output from snmptrapd is formatted according to the
rules defined by the formatting configuration directives.

Select from:

1: How SNMPv1 traps are formatted.
2: How SNMPv2 and SNMPv3 traps are formatted.

Other options: finished, list

Select section:

When i type 1

Select section: 1

Configuring: format1
Description:
How SNMPv1 traps are formatted.
See the snmptrapd.conf manual page for format string details.
arguments: formatstring

The format specification string for SNMPv1 traps:


Now from here i am am not sure what answer to provide.I actually want to receive traps from APC ups.Plz help
