snd-* modules disappeared after kernel recompile
Hello...
I've just installed Slackware 10.1 with 2.4.29
and everything was fine
but I recompiled the kernel with patch for TTL target support
and when I boot my new kernel I realized that all my snd modules are gone, so ALSA can't work
Can anyone tell me how can I solve this ?

Just an idea:
Alsa does not come with the 2.4 kernel. So if you recompile the kernel, don't you also have to recompile the alsa-drivers package?

mjmwired is correct.
Slackware can be a pain in the ass to get the sound working again after a recompile.
I've had the exact problem you are having for a long time before I figured it out.
The best solution: When you first install slackware, use the 2.6 kernel (this is available in slack 10.1).
Now when you recompile (version 2.6 kernel) you will have a fresh copy of alsa and the necessary sound drivers.
Second best solution:
If you don't want to reinstall slackware, but you still want to recompile, use a 2.6 kernel.
However, be warned that some people have experienced problems with conflicting ALSA installations.
The reason is, slackware with kernel 2.4.* and below installs ALSA even though it isn't provided in the 2.4.* kernel. Now when you recompile a 2.6 kernel, ALSA is included with the kernel compile. So you'll have 2 ALSAs on the system.
So if you recompile a 2.6 kernel to replace a 2.4, you might get some conflicts with having 2 diff ALSA installations. But if you have a 2.6 kernel to start with, you'll have no problems recompiling a 2.6 kernel, which is why I recommend installing slack 10.1 with the 2.6 kernel.
Sounds confusing, I know.
In short, if you are using alsa, just stick with 2.6 kernel, you'll be fine.
ALSA + 2.4 can lead to major confusion

Thank you guys
I have kernel 2.6.11 too, and I have no problems with the snd modules with it. But I don't use 2.6.11 because I can't get the dmfe module so my NIC doesn't work
in the config file I couldn't find support for Davicom ethers (dmfe module). If someone can tell me how to get the dmfe I'll be thankful
I prefer 2.4.29 for now, but I don't know what is that thing "alsa-drivers package" and where to find it. In the slackware packages there are only alsa-utils and alsa-lib packages, where is this alsa-drivers and where can I find it

There were davicom drivers in the 2.6.11.5 kernel, but whether they're the ones you need, I'm not sure.

Yeah, I need Davicom.
What's the difference between 2.6.11 and 2.6.11.5 ?
And do you know any about the alsa-drivers ?

They can be compiled into the 2.6.11 kernel.
2.6.11.5 is just a revision of the 2.6.11 kernel with a few bug fixes / minor updates. I compiled mine a few days ago. I last tried 2.6 at 2.6.8 but it didn't support everything I needed.
