"smartd" daemon failing during reboot

Hello all,

Boot process is getting stuck at "smartd" daemon which eventually fails. Does anyone know the reason? Is it safe to execute: "chkconfig smartd off". Kindly suggest.

Check the logs to see if it says why. Run the command ' dmseg ' and reveiw the boot process. If nothing there then it maybe possible the drive you have does not support the smart interface technology. If so then disable as you mention.

Smart & Hdparm -i

Also check your smartd config file (assuming one exists even) and see that as mentioned by Brian1 there is not some option that your hardware doesn't support.

You can also use the HDPARM tool to verify if/that your HD's you are trying to use smartd on actually support SMART capability-- like so:

Code:

root@darkstarSSI:/home/Sasha# hdparm -I /dev/hda
