small memory footprint
ive got an extra machine thats way old:
mmx 200
64mb
1.2 gig
i managed to install RH9 with no problems, but its waaaaayyy
slow.
i found a thread on LQ that suggested peanut linux, but during the install
i get:
kernel panic: out of memory and no killable processes.
I know I can build a LFS system, but thats really time consuming
so is manually shrinking my RH, recompiling kernel, etc...even
on a minimal RH system, they install dozens of unneeded packages.
any suggestions on a memory unintensive distro with X, maybe flux or
wmaker? since its an extra machine, i really dont need any of the
server side stuff.
I have searched on this and found many that claim to meet my requirements,
but unfortunately even peanut linux said it would install and run with 64mb...
anyone with real world experience out there?
thanks
