Slow to boot and low free memory

Hi there. I recently installed the spca5xx driver and some other associated packages with their dependencies, I would list them but I don't know know what they were or how to find out. I installed libsdl and I think one of the packages that was installed as a dependency was a newer version of X. I am using Mandriva Cooker and KDE 3.4. Now when I restart the computer it takes quite a while to boot and almost all of the 512MB of RAM is used right from the start. Everything else seems to have slowed down, I'm guessing because of the lack of free memory. Is there some way to fix this?

It is normal, that Linux uses all of the free RAM. I have 1GB of RAM in my computer and after 30min of working, the RAM is completly used (for buffers and cache). 512MB of RAM is usually sufficent for a Desktop computer.

You can find that out by using the "top" command on console.
