Slow startup on SlackWare.

I have 2 questions. How come I do not have a visual logon screen on Slackware 9? The other one isn't really a question, but I need help. When Slack ware is booting up it takes about 2 minutes to load sendmail. This is probably vague in formation, but here it is.
Starting sendmail/ MTA daemon /usr/sbin/lpd -L sm-mta -bd -q25m.

Please help a n00b

if you do not use sendmail, do the following:

open a terminal as root, then do 'chmod 000 /etc/rc.d/rc.sendmail'
(undo this with the command 'chmod 775 /etc/rc.d/rc.sendmail')

this will prevent sendmail from being started.

as for not booting into x at boot, edit /etc/inittab, and find the
line 'id:3:initdefault:' ; change the 3 to a 4. next time you boot
you will automatically enter x (gdm, xdm or kdm, depending on
your window manager).

good luck.
