Slow Screen Saver (GL Problem) on RH9/KDE

Hey everyone,

I am running RH9 with KDE. I recently noticed that my Pipes(GL) screensaver is running a good deal slower than previously. I think a setting got changed when I updated the kernel and had to re-install the nVidia 3D driver. However, typing glxinfo in my prompt gives

direct rendering =" yes"

and the nVidia splash screen appears when i login and logout, giving me the impression that the driver got re-installed correctly.

Furthermore, in the window where you select which screensaver to use, there is a "test" button. Clicking "test" gives me a preview of the screen saver, and Pipes(GL) runs at full speed there. For some reason when it officially kicks in it runs slow. I do not think I am running demanding services or playing mp3s or anything that would cause a slow down. Besides, it ran fine under my previous kernel.

Anyone have any idea what could be causing the slow down?
I have an nVidia GeForce 4 MX card.

And lastly, anyone know where I can snag a "Matrix" screensaver for linux? mainstream, i know, but it looks cool. Thanks

Do you have Mesa installed? Mesa is a software OpenGL library. Its very slow, and it could be interfering with the Nvidia library.

Try removing that if its installed.

Also, did you add "load glx" to your XF86Config file after installing the Nvidia drivers?

Nope, i didnt change the speed of the S. Saver.
The XF86Config file is all up to date. To my knowledge I do not have Mesa installed. As i said, the i noticed the problem after I updated the kernel.

Ok, I re-installed the nvidia driver. We're back up to speed.
