slow kde start

My kde 3.1 and gnome 2.2 waits up to 5 minutes to start. This strange behavior started after an impropper shutdown.

I'm using mandrake 9.1.

any suggestions?

I'm no expert, but I think I might be able to help out on this one. Have you run fsck?

Are you using Ext2 or Ext3?
Have you turned off the Network service?

i figured out that a call to a script that i've made in the rc.local file was somehow slowing down the startup. I've deleted the line in the rc.local and now everything went back to normal.

But, this script used to lauch the internet connection. Where or when in the boot process can i call it whitout messing up with the system?

Read about Init, and using a symlink in /etc/rc5.d/ to your script in /etc/rc.d/init.d/
