Angry SLES: Why don't my environment variables get set?

I'm trying to set up ASE on a SLES server.

I set up /etc/profile.local, /etc/bashrc.bashrc.local and even the sybase user's .bashrc file to run the script that sets up the Sybase Variables... but when the sybase user logs in.... or any other user, the variables DON'T GET SET! I can even run the script myself, and the variables don't get set.

The script only has a bunch lines setting variables and exporting them.

What the hell is going on?

Is the script's permissions set to executable?

Could you post the script?

Not really... The box is not within my reach right now.

But it has things like:

Code:
SYBASE=/usr/sybase
export SYBASE
And some other variables.... including PATH and LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
