SLES 9, IMAP server, Frustrations, and New Linux user questions.
I purchased Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9 (SLES 9) for my company to use as a standalone server (for now) with the options to add on more in the future as we required them. Basically, I want the ability to do the following:
- I have 1 static IP behind a Linksys 4 port firewall/router with 3 computers connected. All computer IP's are statically assigned. 2 of the computers are personal, one is the company server mentioned above.
- I want Apache, PHP, Perl, MySQL installed and running smoothly on the SLES 9 box (done with no troubles). I have port forwarding for http requests to the company box and works fine. YAY!
- I want a robust mail server that can handle IMAP, POP, and Webmail access. Cyrus FAQ says it is specifically for a server that does not handle any use logins, so that option may be out. Unless it can handle a login (would just be me anyway)....I am unsure what to do.
This is where I am running into troubles.
SLES 9 installation CD's "come with", and I use that term VERY loosely here, what they say is Cyrus IMAP server and related libraries - Berkely, SASL, etc. They also come with their own version of IMAP server supposedly. The problem is I can install them using the CD's, but there is NO place in Yast2 or in the menu trees for administering the server. No instructions in man or anything concerning this.
I am ready to pull my hair out on this. Problem with unloading specific modules through Yast runs into many dependancy problems on other modules I think I need.
Should I go for Courier, or another route? I don't mind creating user accounts for each employee for mailboxes, but they won't be logging onto the system at all, just myself.
Any ideas?
