Slax on USB thumbdrive

I just ordered a thumb drive so that I can boot slax from it, and I was wondering a couple things.

1. Will I be able to save my settings to the thumbdrive?

2. Will Windows XP be able to read and write to the thumbdrive?

Thanks.

tell me if I have this right. When you boot off of CD, and save something to root, it gets copied to root, but is in memory, so it is lost when you reboot.

When you boot off of USB, it is copied to root, which is on the USB drive, so it IS saved when you reboot.

Is that right?

Yeap.That's right.
Also you can mount your root drive (in this case usb) in read-only mode so nothing will be written into it. Same as CD.

Try this one out:

http://myslax.bonsonno.org/

I'm not sure I quite get the question, but you can read/write to the same USB drive and swap it between Win/Linux right? I would imagine it is all about compatible file systems.

You can read that live CD in Windows and Linux, right? It is a file system, that they can both read.

Windows XP can read/write to NTFS, but I don't think SLAX can reside in an NTFS partition on a USB drive and still be bootable. I don't know that for a fact, I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure they can both read/write from FAT32. I guess that would be the logical choice. Maybe even FAT also.

I guess the question is, what FS can SLAX boot from that is still readable/writable by XP.
