Slacware 8 and DSL

Having trouble finding out what Slack uses to connect to DSL modems. I have tried roaring penguins pppoe without success. What am I missing? I have no problem with dial-up config, but at a total loss about the DSL.

What's the ISP? Earthlink, Directtvdsl, bellsuck? What problems are you haveing with rp-ppoe?

Is this USB or ethernet, and if its ethernet, are you sure you've got your NIC up and running?

Cheers,

Finegan

I have a similar issue

I have a similar problem on my girlfriend's machine that I am setting up for her.

We are using:
-Sympatico ADSL
-Slack 8
-HP Pavillion (3150C, I think) with whatever card came inside it (can't remember from the install)
-RP PPPoE (latest version, just downloaded a few days ago)

problem:
It seems as though every attempt to connect times out. I called their support line and it said that all their services were up and running (so much for the "its not my fault" way out).
It did connect once yesterday out of the blue. However, after about 2 minutes of internet use the entire system froze and went into a deep hardware lock. I am not sure if this caused the lock but it would be consistent with other problems that I have had with this system (once on a static IP ethernet network we could get online with it but it would go into a heavy freeze whenever we tried to initiate an FTP transfer with one of the other machines on the network).

Can someone please get back to me on this ASAP?!?!?! I have to leave tomorrow for a work term and I won't be able to get back here to fix it all term so she will revert to "muling it up" on Windows if I can't get this working by tomorrow afternoon.

Please help.

Thanks,
Jeff.

run the script adsl-setup and make sure you filled in all the answers , user name, dns info, etc....

it should be just a matter of plugging all the right info in that script and away you go.

I have sympatico and slack 8.0 and I'm using roaring penguin (RP-PPPOE I think?) and everything is working fine. The problem is probably your network card.... What is the one you're using??? The card sympatico gave me (D-Link 530 tx) works very well.

What's your modem? I have the "speed stream" model.
