Slackware -current need Xorg downgrade to 7.4
Hey people,
My name is oliver and ich have a big problem. I use Slackware-current on my Laptop and I have a problem with fglrx since my last update. My XServer and fglrx doesnt work with Xorg 7.5 . Therefore my Question. How I can downgrade Xorg 7.5 to 7.4 . Excuse me for my bad englisch. My Hardware is a Ati Radeon Xpress 200. |
You'll have to downgrade to at least Xorg 7.3. In addition, you'd have to downgrade your kernel. Honestly, if you must use fglrx, you should stick with an older distribution, such as Slackware 12.* or Ubuntu 8.10. Nothing newer will work with fglrx on your card since you'll have to use fglrx 9.3.
You're much better off just using the open source radeon driver. Adam |
OK, but the last Distri who work fglrx 9.3 was under Slackware
13.0 .Ähm how I can change from the flrx to using the open source Driver radeon. Fglrx is uninstall but XServer will not work. |
Hmmm... Perhaps I have the versions off slightly. In any case, you would still have to downgrade Xorg and the kernel, and that's not recommended.
To get Xorg working with the radeon driver, you should start by starting X without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and then show us the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file that is generated so that we can figure out what's going on. Adam |

Ok,
There is my Xorg.log . Do you have an Idea ? Oli |
You said the X server will not work, but there is no problem with your log file. What do you mean by "XServer will not work"?

Well when I enter startx
1 second I see the Kde load window then die window was black and I see again the shell. I don´t know why and I don`t know how I use the ati or radeon treiber . oli |
Well you are using the radeon driver, and it's working fine. It looks like the KDE crashing is due to KDE, not Xorg or the driver. Try another window manager and see if that works.

Really ?
Oh I`m stupid. Thanks for your Help. oli |
Did another window manager work?
