Slackware 8 printing problems

G'day all,

Trying to get some printing action goin on here - have an HP DJ692C. Seems as if I'm not seeing the parallel port. Excerpt from dmesg:

parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [PCSPP(,...)]

I compiled 2.4.17 with parallel port printer support, so I assume that I don't need to run any modules. Everytime I try a simple cat file.txt > /dev/lp0 or /dev/parport0 i get nothing.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

btw, this message brought to you by Microsoft - WinXP completely blew up the other day after I installed a 'recommended security update'. Blue screens everytime I try and boot into it. I finally understand where windows belongs - a little resizable window running vmware in the corner of my screen
