Slackbuild packages on ubuntu.
I don't know how well slack build packages would work on Ubuntu or Debian based distributions. Dependencies will get the best of you right? Unless you are using Debian you will always have to worry about dependencies. (Will not be true all the time. The only reason I say this Is because how many packages Debian has Installed.)

Debian has not more packages installed than Ubuntu. There are many packages available, but you have to install the dependencies manually if you want to compile software. Especially because you need the developer packages for this task.

No, if I want to compile a program, i have to install the dependencies manually, but I have to use the developer-version of the packages.
Example: I want to compile program A, which depends on library lib-B. To compile and run program A I have to install lib-B and lib-B-dev. Edit: If you want to use slackbuilds it would be the easiest way to use slackware. |
