Skype problem Mandriva 2008
I have just installed Skype but it does not work. I get problem with Audio playback. I have looked to see what the problem is on google but nothing of anyuse.
The microphone is new and I think it works, I can hear from the associated headphones so it seems fine. |
Code:
cat /proc/asound/cards It does work in Windows Vista however by playing with the sound now the speakers don't work in Windows. Any idea? |
It looks like you are using an incredibly old version of Knoppix (3.9). I think they are up to version 6.0 these days. You might have more joy trying a more recent version.

Actually I am using Mandriva 2008 Spring - changed my profile options now.

Ok, that's more like it. Does your microphone work in general and just not in skype? I have checked the "input" settings on your mixer? They are often set to silly settings.

My microphone does not seem to work in Linux at all - it does in Win Vista.
Annoyingly (probably cos I have been changing things) I have killed sound in Windows !!!! I did check the settings no luck. |
Good news sound in Windows is working.Sadly the microphone in Linux is not :(
|
What input settings did you check on your mixer?

The input and switches using KMix. Is there a command that gives the settings in a printable form?
|
Just take a screen shot of the input tab's seetings with ksnapshot. Normally justing hitting the PrtScrn key will bring up this program.

You can also do this on the command line:
Code:
amixer contents cheers, jdk |
Code:
amixer contents |
It might help if you posted the amixer contents that relate to your problem which I thought was your mic. Isn't that so? Some of these setting my be relevant to your mic problem.

I am a bit concerned that all the numid values equal 0. I don't think that's correct. Are you sure you've installed the correct driver for your sound card? Did you put the complete output of amixer contents above? If so, it would seem something is very wrong with your setup. Cheers, jdk |
The problem is the microphone however that is all that I got from amixer. I am pretty sure there was nothing else(I am away from my PC at the moment so will check later).

Code:
amixer contents |
