Must be some other problem. I have the Etch version running on Lenny on at least four computers (in various states of keeping current with dist-upgrade), two of them being 64-bits.

What exactly do you see (or do you not see) when you say 'it doesn work.

A statically linked version would not have any dependencies, so you could always try that (it's just a much bigger download).

Given the size of the file (15 MB) I assume the Etch version is statically linked. For Debian no alternatives are available.

Click the Static link by downloading it and doing it the old fashioned way by compiling it.

The is no 64-bit Skype and I've written so many times - they just refuse to get their butts into gear and get the job done.

There are many 'how to' notes out there on setting up Skype under 64-bit Debian systems.

Basically you have to install ia32-libs and use
Code:
dpkg -i --force-architecture
It could be that dpkg complains about a missing library, so install that package as well.

And BTW if you had provided us with information about 64bit in the first place you had received this answer 3 days ago. We cannot smell that you are running 64bits and it is relevant enough to note. I even emphasized that I was running it on 32 and 64 bits.
