Skype 4.2 video output black screen in Ubuntu 12.04
My web cam works fine with Cheese, but with Skype(4.2.011v) it does not. I get a black screen.
This is what was recommended I do, but I get stuck and cannot go forward:
My input in the Terminal :: LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype
Terminal Outputs ::
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
`menu_proxy_module_load': /usr/bin/skype: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load
(skype:7913): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module: (null)
`menu_proxy_module_load': /usr/bin/skype: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load
(skype:7913): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module: (null)
`menu_proxy_module_load': /usr/bin/skype: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load
(skype:7913): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module: (null)
Can anyone please explain what this means and/or suggest what I have to do to fix the issue, and get a clear video in Skype? Thank you for your time

Try starting skype normally and once it's open go to the Options menu and select Video Devices. What does the Select Webcam say? Does it recognise your webcam? If so, then are the boxes Enable Skype Video and Start my video automatically checked?

No point in repeating what you said already in posts of one line. When you go into video devices do you see an image on the screen in the upper right-hand side? Is CIF Single Chip the correct designation for your video? Is it called the same thing in Cheese? In Skype can you see other people's video? A bit more detail concerning your problem would be helpful. How exactly do you know your video is not working?

I know my video is not working because the screen in Skype video devices is black, there is no image. The CIF Single Chip is the designation of my video. Its the same designation in both Skype and Cheese.
I did a search on many forums about this problem and found a potential solution. However, I get the error I posted below. Can you please look at what I posted in my first post and go from there. I don't know what I need to do next! What do I have to check for to find out further information!?Am I missing packages!? etc.
I would also like to point out that although I am a newby on this forum, I have been using linux ubuntu for sometime, but I am have not had sufficient (frequent enough) experience in fixing issues via terminal. Fixing infrequent issues not using the terminal I have been successful at.
Thank you for your time!

Have you tried starting skype with the normal command (without the LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so part of the command)
Regarding the error messages: have you installed the libv4l-0 package?
