Question Skip chroot and just flat replace the Chrome OS with Linux?

I'm not sure if this is a hardware question or a software one, but...
Can you replace the Chrome OS on a Chromebook with linux (in this case, linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop). I'm not the least bit interested in dual boot, but flat replacing it. The stumbling block is I don't know if you can have a Chromebook boot from a flash drive. If you can, then Gparted could be used to toast the OS and you could use a Linux flash drive to install Linux. I can't find much in my searches about a BIOS on a Chromebook and less on external booting.

It's a question of flashing the firmware.

Search for chromebook linux replace chrome on the web.

Here is one example:

but read through a few to get the general idea of how to approach it.

Let us know how you get on!

Okay, I looked at that link and it does not look like rocked science to do that. I think I will look into getting one and switching the OS. Thanks!
