Sketchup Make 2015 Arrow Tool Issue

I've just installed SketchUp Make 2015 and it is running, but there is a nasty glitch that I've never seen before. (I have installed earlier versions of SketchUp before, but only the latest version seems to be available now.)

SketchUp seems to run OK, and I seem to be able to draw and manipulate objects, but whenever I select the arrow-tool and click on the drawing/model (in preparation for selecting an area, for example), the view changes to an image which resembles the startup image, but each time it appears, it becomes more and more distorted and confusing. Selection still works, but since you can't see your drawing/model, making a careful selection is nearly impossible.

Is anyone else seeing this, or is it just me? Can anyone suggest a remedy?

There is also an issue with tooltips which isn't very serious, and (more annoying than anything else) every time I start SketchUp, it opens a tab on my browser.

I'm on Slackware 14.1 64-bit with Alien Bob's multilib and compat32 additions (thank you, Mr. Bob!)

I know and old thread... But your base install is same. Did you install the 64 bit or 32 bit version? If 64 bit how? I can only get the 32 bit version to install. Thank you

Don't recall which version I used. It's been deleted quite a while now, since it was unusable. Now running 14.0.4900 and will soon try SU 2016 to see if I can get it to work.

My setup is Slackware 14.1 with Multilib and WINE 1.8 package from AlienBob. Installed WINE programs for pipelight-plugins (also from AlienBob) are in a separate WINEPREFIX, with Windows Silverlight 5.1 and Flash 21 running for my Firefox, SeaMonkey, and PaleMoon browsers to view HULU and view other flash and silverlight content without having to use Chromium (although pipelight won't work with NetFlix). This means my WINE installation should work and gives us a sample of how to use WINEPREFIXES, although WINEHQ.com FAQ's has more on the use of WINEPREFIXES.

I was able to install the SketchUpMake 2016 and SketchUpPro 2016 32 bit versions in a clean WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.local/share/wineprefixes/sketchup (per WINEHq the standard location for wineprefixes is in $HOME but then anyplace below that which you wish (AlienBob still puts his in $Home/.wine and the special WINE configur for the FDSteams pipelight plugins in $HOME/.wine-pipelight). I have not overly tested the 32 bit SketchUp versions. Since I run Slackware I also used SBopkg to install q4Wine and its dependencies fuseiso and icoutils, which lets me setup WINEPREFIXES and change architectures easily and implement some winetricks also, but I'll go through the CLI method for now.

The installation process was to:
1) download SketchUpMake-en-x64.exe and SketchUpMake-en.exe from http://www.sketchup.com/download/all
2) BASH$ export WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.local/share/wineprefixes/sketchup or WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.wine-sketchup.
3) BASH$ env WINEPREFIX=$HOME/.local/share/wineprefixes/sketchup winecfg, and change environmet to Windows7
4) Now there are options for how to start the installation, one is to use "wine control" for the "Add/Remove" program and INSTALL the application, or use "wine uninstaller" and INSTALL the application, or BASH$ wine <pathto>SketchUpMake-en.exe will also start the installation.
5) Both 32 and 64 bit applications will install without problems. For the first start of 32 bit you'll be ask to accept the EULA, and then a template, which after selection goes to the first start screen. The 64 bit never gets to the EULA. I've tried starting the 64 bit from BASH but the error outbuts are that the mfc100u.dll is missing and required for C:\Programa Files (x86)\SketchUp 2016\sketchup.exe the only problem is that the windows\system32 has mfc100u.dll.

There is a LQ note that maybe the sketchup.desktop should be modified to end with /DisableRubyAPI, but that didn't help me.

Although the SketchUp hardware and software requirements mention IE9 and Windows7, I've found that after creating the WINEPREFIX, that if I use winecfg to change the environment to Win7 that the installation doesn't balk about IE9, although both Wine Gecko, and mono will also be installed during the WINE setup.

This is how far I've gotten. Maybe you'll get further and we can share notes on what to try. Good Luck and keep in touch. BrianA_MN
