Question Simulated HDD Activity Light Software

Hey, folks...

I just put together a desktop system (Frankenputer - made from parts from the computer graveyard out in my shop). The case that I used does not provide an hdd activity LED on the front, as was the way in years past.

I faintly remember running a simulated hdd activity light app in Windows 98 about 15 years ago and was wondering (I've searched online for this already w/ no joy) if there is a comparable Linux app that places a simulated hdd activity light in your panel (Xfce)?

It doesn't have to be specifically for Slackware or Xfce. I can possibly make something from some other distro/wm work.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Regards, and Happy Holidays, Solstice, etc.

Hi...

I'm not sure what you found in terms of software but I did find two programs (one for Ubuntu) here, although I'm not sure if they will work with XFCE.

If that's not an option, about two or three years ago, I purchased an ATX case that included a built in HDD LED. While I'm not sure if it will meet your needs, if you're interested, you can take a look at it here. The company website is here.

Regards...

Well, it's definitely not important enough for me to tear this system down and reinstall in a new case, so...

... but thanks for the suggestions, ardvark71.

I'm thinking of drilling a small hole in a blank area on the front of this case and installing my own drive activity LED. It wouldn't take a lot of time/effort to do this. The mobo supports drive activity light, but I didn't notice until after this system was assembled and running that it didn't have a light on the case front.

I guess drive activity lights are going the way of the modem and AGP vid card.

Have a great Holiday!

That's one way of doing it, you would just need to find a way to attach the LED.

Which I find strange, they're actually quite helpful indicators.
