simplest pop server for debian 3.1
Lo there all,
i have debian sarge installed running an apache web server. What i need now is a very simple to install and configure pop server so i can retrieve email as a user here. Debian comes with exim4, so i suppose smtp is covered. I know it sends me cron messages that i can get thru balsa. so, i know almost nothing about this... after much goolging i still dont know what the easiest solution would be. we have a domain name here. and if it simplifies things all mail users can be system users. thanks for any tips. |
check this out:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDE...tml#SERVERMAIL on debians website i followed documentation -> howtos -> more -> mail you could also google for 'full list of howtos' to get to a similar website full of different tutorials |
Thanks for that link, i have read a dozen or so how-tos. Especially at how-to forge and some links from osnews.com . Just wanted to get some experienced input before i take the plunge.
thanks |
mail servers are generally a bit of work - dont assume you can set up a mail server in no time at all, esp if it is your first go. also there are maintenance jobs to take care of the system and quite importantly keeping it secure and up to date.
i personally am in favour of cyrus imapd but dont want to start flame wars on mail servers here :-) (probably also just because i managed to get my head arount it) |
