simple script needed

I have a server running ubuntu 5.1 (breezy badger) from my house and we have a dynamic ip. i have everything running great but its a pain in the butt when the ip changes. right now i have a php script on my internet server (that i pay for, hosted somewhere else with a domain), and the php script has a login, that when logged in correctly will refresh the page every hour or so updating the dynamic ip into a database. from there i can easily redirect to that ip using php.

the problem is, my server being a 450mhz p3 with 256 ram, i dont want to have the x windows server running and have firefox open the entire time because it takes up so much of the system's resources.

what i'm looking for is a script that i can run from a command line after i have stopped the window server that will login and periodically update my ip address in a mysql database on a server.

does anyone know where i can find a script like this, or could someone write one for me? i know it's kind of asking a lot but i dont think it would be too hard for someone that is quite good in whatever language this could be written in (perl, python, c)??

thanks, and sorry for the essay of a post
chris

If you're using dynamic DNS you might consider installing the package ddclient. There's a small bit near the middle of this page: http://www.siliconvalleyccie.com/lin...ns-dynamic.htm that explains how to set the parameters. You can set it to run as a daemon and hopefully never worry about updating the DDNS server again.
