Simple Screen Recorder and MKV Output Files

2015-09-30

Recently I successfully recorded screen outputs of my simple show-and-tell bash script files using SimpleScreenRecorder 0.3.3 in Linux Mint 17.1 on a 2004 HP desktop and a 2013 Dell laptop. I've played these mkv files using VLC, totem or mplayer without any trouble and am highly satisfied with the results.

However, these files lose synch between sound and video and become chaotic when they are played on a non-native machine. Are they machine-dependent? Is there something special about mkv files?

Any help will be much appreciated.

just convert them from mkv into avi with ffmpeg. ffmpeg can also record your screen directly.

Hi, Dutchy103,

Sorry about my late response. I did convert my mkv files into avi per your suggestion but the outcome remained the same. I tend to think that the problem was with the creation of the files. A a matter of fact, I am doing an extensive study of this matter and will report back with my analysis when I am ready. Thanks very much for your kind input.
