simple SAMBA share


im just trying to share a directory using samba /home/atlantis/ is the directory iwant to share, and this is what my smb.conf file looks like

[global]

[atlantis_mobile]
	comment = atlantis_mobile home
	path = /home/atlantis/
	valid users = atlantis, root
	read only = No
	guest ok = Yes
the problem is that when i view with smb4k ATLANTIS_MOBILE shows up, but there is no direcotry shared under it...

Since it appears that you want to share the home directory, and have a login required, you could use this as a smb.conf:

[homes]
I kid you not, a smb.conf file containing just that line should give you what you want.

ok, lets say i wanted to share a different directory, lets say /win_c/ or /win_d/

Well then you would just define the path in the "path = " variable.

I'm not sure why that didn't work for you before. Are you sure that the path is valid, and that the user connecting to the share has the proper permissions to access the directory in question?

And what do the Samba logs say?
