can anyone recommend any apps to get a longhrom-like sidebar on my debian linux (KDE) system? prefferably something like what's shown in this screenshot: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Screenshot-6.png
the app that you are looking for is called superkaramba ;-). Its easy to handle and you can make it look like you want it to. Its an kde-app, available as tar.gz. http://netdragon.sourceforge.net/ssuperkaramba.html
Probably it is also available via apt-get (i using mandriva, not debian, so i'm not sure).
there are a lot of different themes on http://www.kde-look.org.
...and if you don't feel like using superkaramba or gdesklets + a theme, you can just use gkrellm. In my experiences a smaller program that works with all DEs.
I am now happily running gdesklets (on KDE) . It works very nicely, and I like the module selector thing. Only prob is that the only weather source is yahoo weather, which sucks because now i have a great big ? over the sun because they only have temperature information for my city.
Other than that, very nice. Thanks.
I might write me a php script to parse the weather information from www.bom.gov.au and ptu it in the same format as yahoo weather...
