Shows too many console lines for my monitor

I searched the net for info on this, but couldn't find any so now I'm asking here.

My virtual console has too many lines. This means that, depending on how I adjust my monitor, I either can't see the bottom 4 lines or the top 4 lines of my console.

My monitor is an ordinary 17" TFT, and the distribution is Ubuntu Dapper desktop.

I don't know. How can i check?

But I'm not running X, and the graphics chip is an arcane onboard ATi Rage.

Alright. Lines of possible interest in the order they appear:

[ 52.211358] Console: colour VGA+ 80x25
[ 57.231650] Boot video device is 0000:01:00.0
[ 58.327955] vga16fb: initializing
[ 58.327984] vga16fb: mapped to 0xc00a0000
[ 58.439536] Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 80x25
[ 58.439569] fb0: VGA16 VGA frame buffer device

Alright, so my framebuffer have 25 horrisontal lines, and when I count the number of lines on my monitor, I only get 22.

So far so good. What do I do now?
