Shotwell: Listing all tags found for photos with a certain tag

I have a number of photos tagged "birds". Each of these are also tagged with the name of the specific species of birds present on the photo. I also have thousands of photos that has nothing to do with birds.

If I wanted to get an overview of which kinds of birds I have photographed, can I somehow obtain a list of all the tags that photos that are also tagged with "bird" are tagged with?

Currently, the list to the left in the interface, (where all the tags are listed), does not filter when I click on the tag "bird". I still get to see e.g. "cars" even though none of my bird photos are tagged with "cars".

No I had not checked out exiv2.

I have briefly checked it out now. Seems like it requires some more checking out, however. As I understand it, I can use exif2 to extract data such as tags from all my photos, and then it should be possible to filter display all tags that are found on photos that also are tagged with "bird". It does not seem to be an interface between shotwell and exif though. Perhaps I should try another appplication than shotwell?
