shortcut for typing long names

hello everyone
i was wondering if there is a shortcut or short key way to type in long names in the shell i mean sometimes the file names with their versions are too long that we make so many mistakes typing them is there any way that shell can guess the rest if the file name if we type some of the words in the file

yes, use TAB key. Type a few characters, then TAB. It will complete the hole path/File name for you. If more then one file is found (e.g you,ve typed "cd /home/user/doc + TAB") and you have multiples files which starts with doc (e.g, docs, documents) it will show you a list. It's pretty neat, try it

and don't forget to make liberal use of the mouse. if you're like me, the first thing you do after cd'ing to a directory is "ls" to list the files, so the file that you want is right there on the screen. just double-click on the file name so that it hi-lites (which puts it into the paste-buffer) and then middle-mouse to paste it on the command line.
