sharing internet connection between Fedora host and Win98 VMware guest

Hi! I'm using Fedora Core 1, and have win98SE set up as a guest virtual machine with VMware (workstation 4). I have to connect to the internet with AOL (very sorry), and as Gamera isn't available yet and I haven't been able to get the AOL software working under Wine, I'm having to connect to the internet (56k dial-up modem) with my win98 guest.

The guest OS is getting online properly, but I'm trying to share that connection with the Fedora host so that I can get that online as well (which was the whole point of doing this in the first place), but I have no idea how to do it. I've set up internet connection sharing on the Win98 guest, and I've added the guest's IP to route (as default) in the host, but nothing's happening. Does anyone have any suggestions, either on how to do this or alternatively how to get AOL running under Wine?

I should say, I'm a newbie for linux as well as for VMware, so I'd appreciate it if any advice could be given step by step, as if to a dimwitted monkey.

Thanks!

Anyone?

In case it's of use to anyone, I figured out what the problem was - AOL software doesn't support internet connection sharing. In later editions of Windows than 98, you can't set it up at all, and in 98 or below it just ignores it.

So instead I've now got it set up with a proxy server - running a proxy server on the Windows VM, and getting Linux to connect to it on the relevant address and ports.

BUT - I can only get individual apps (eg mozilla, elinks, gaim) working with it, because I have to set them up indivudally with the proxy settings. I know it's possible to set it globally with a firewall, mapping different ports to the ones needed (ipchains or something??) but I have no idea how to do it. Any help would be appreciated!
