SFTP user access

I have created SFTP for users on Linux and there are few bunch of client users who access it.

Everyone has a unique id and password.

They were fine until one day and suddenly they are not able to write anymore.

Only root can write to a folder and subfolders, but they can’t when I run chmod 755, they get error code 3 access denied when creating new folders

But when I run chmod 765 to give write access to the group of users, they lose their login access, just keep saying reconnect.

do i have to do anything with setenforce or getenforce.

any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Dom

You could look at implementing selinux or do an easy workaround of setting the uid. Chmod 4755 will allow users to run that file or have perms on the directory as if they were the owner. So chmod 4700 will still allow full read write and execute access to everyone.

can you tell what is the best practice with the above selinus and uid, setenforce. im fairely new to linux and im just trying to get my feet in.

does SFTP in Cent os keep disconnecting after a set time can we set so its logged in for longer period in time.

give me a commant that i can run in root so all the users can get rwx access. im not sure if it has to preceed setenforce or getenforce.

please help.

thanks

Try setting the setuid if you want a quick way to make it work. Then start googling and researching selinux. Its hard for me to give you the info you are asking for in a quick forum post. But run the following on the directories you need SFTP access to:

Code:
chmod -R 4755 /path/to/parent/folder
