Several Software Questions about Fonts, Sound, Emails, etc pp

Hello everyone,

while I'm using Linux for two and half a year on servers now I decided to try it as a workstation solution. That was two weeks ago and I already solved some Problems, but to some others I could not find a solution:

(1) Mail
I'm in need of an Outlook-Clone for Qt. I know Ximian's Evolution, but it would be nice if I would have a Qt-based one. Thats also caused by what I mention in my second question -, but mainly because I could not find sources for Evolution and since I am a slackware user, I need these sources.

(2) GTK and TTF
I imported my Windows-TTF-fonts to linux, converting them. They work perfectly in every Qt (KDE) app, but GTK cannot use them and I dont know why. The fonts dir is listed in /etc/X11/XF86Config, but that does not help.

(3) OpenOffice and fonts
Another Question to my fonts: When I'm using e.g. Times new Roman in OpenOffice, the font is displayed as if typed bold, that means, really thick. How can I fix that? The KDE Font Antialising does not affect it

(4) Sound
I'm using an SB Live Value with OSS and XMMS. Some frequencies do not sound good, what means, the sound is crappy and unclear. Under windows I never expected that (it's as if I turned my speakers to loudly, but they are not) and dunno how to fix it

Hm, think this is everything what prevents me from beeing happy with Linux, I'm thankful for every bit of help

See my post here
For instructions on getting Evolution installed in Slackware.

Not sure on the font/sound issues. I still haven't gotten around to installing any extra fonts.
