setup gftp on irix 6.5

has anybody out there every had the joy and pleasure of setting up ftp on a SGI O2 running IRIX 6.5?

I have ran swmgr and told it to install fw_gftp-2.0.14.tardist (which I found on their website) but I still can't ftp over and imagine that I need to do something else (but don't know what else)

thanks!

So you ran swmgr and downloaded the ftp package to what directory before running:

tardist /<directory>/<file>.tardist

and now you can't run the app gftp?!

Is that correct?

EDIT: or did you use swmgr to do it all?

What happened when you ran gftp?

Did you run gftp from a launcher or from console?

untar'ed in my root directory and used swmgr to do all

there was on conflict (i told swmgr to remove the new packages and keep the old file) - i have been wondering if this is my problem (could a small conflict cause this much trouble?). i believe it was a security issue

can not run gftp.

the real issue is not as much getting gftp to run, but more so to be able to ftp into the computer ... gftp would just be icing on the cake

Kinda of a different way to install it with your steps. I'm confused about removal of the new packages and keep the old when you are trying to upgrade.

Also, why didn't you just setup the box to allow anonymous logins for the ftp service which comes with IRIX or registered user logins?

gftp is the client that you ftp with and not the server/service that one sets up for people to log into.

so maybe the real question to start is, why can't i ftp into the computer if it should already be set up, correct?

i am going to go right now and see what else that i can find

Maybe that IRIX 6.5 link for the Indy in my signature might help you, no?
