setting up network in RH9

i m trying to set up a network using RH9

i have a 3com ethernet card and redhat has drivers for it (i say so because it has detected it..)
i have given the servername as localhost...

now i m trying to put a static IP 172.16.1.13
the subnet is 255.255.0.0

but the machine is not being configured for network access..
eth0 shows inactive status all the time...
on pressing activate, it says it cannot activate eth0..

pls help

It just says it cannot activate eth0? It doesn't say why?

looking at your location, i can just make a guess that you are trying to get on with your cable internet access (24online). if this is not so then please excuse me for me reply.
i have my server name as my default gateway only i.e. 172.16.0.1. try that one. it might work.

i once restarted my machine and it while initialization it said that it has not been able to find eth0 device.. so initialization of eth0 failed...

when it says it cannot activate eth0, it does not tell me why. it is kind of strange but this is the way it happens. does not give any reasons for it.

and i do not think that it is a problem with httpd but if someone feels so, i will gladly listen to him/her.

Regards
Xing
