Setting Up Mail Relay - Sendmail or Other?

Hi Guys, perhaps you can help a lady out here.

I am setting up a CentOs server, this is on the internet but is a test system for now.

I am ok with Linux but not that hot on mail programs.

Sendmail 8.13.8 has been included and works ok - I can type "mail xxx@hotmail.com" and the mail is delivered.

I want to use this server as a relay agent. That is to forward a mail list so if I compose an email in Outlook or similar to user@hotmail.com, user@yahoo.com etc these will be sent. At present I use my ISP but we want to get away from doing that, btw they block port 25.

I have access to the server back-end, I don't really want to get into tunneling X so would prefer not to use a graphical app. Of course it has to be secure.

Is Sendmail ok for this or is there something else better suited and easier to configure?

Thanks a million.

Hi,

sendmail is okay as mta. take a look at sendmail.org there is plenty of documentation. First time configuration can be hard, but if it works it does not require much attention.

Be carefull not to setup an open mail relay.

Thanks for your response.

As my ISP blocks port 25 the first thing I want to do is use a different port for sendmail. I have tried editing /etc/mail/sendmail.mc with lines like:

define(`SMART_HOST', `smtp-server.com:26')dnl

and

define(`RELAY_MAILER_ARGS', `IPC $h 26')dnl

But sendmail always uses port 25. What am I doing wrong?
