Setting up exim4 (or something else) on Debian Sarge
 

Hey everyone,

I recently set up my first linux server. I installed Debian Sarge and got LAMP set up just fine. It's getting closer to launch date, and I'm having a hell of a time setting up Exim4.

Exim4 came with the install by default, and after a few discussions on this board and a couple others, I decided to give it a shot.

The problem I'm having is that there is just TOO MUCH documentation. I can't make any sense of it for my simple needs.

Basically, I am going to be running a web server that will host about five domains (All through a single IP using virtual hosts). The server will only need to accept email for ONE user on ONE domain.

I'll want to be able to retrieve the email using my windows machines (I figured I'd use POP).

So, it's a pretty simple setup. The only other requirement is that I am able to send mail from one or two web forms on my domains.

I've searched on the web (and asked around) for tutorials or howtos for such a simple setup, but they all seem to be for older versions of Exim, or WAY beyond what my needs are.

I'm looking for suggestions on where to go from here. Is there another mail server that is easier to set up for my simple needs? Is there another service I can use altogether so I don't have to manage a mail server?

Any suggestions from anyone who's been in a similar situation would be very much appreciated.

Maybe give postfix a try, to me it seems a bit easier than exim. I'm not a pro with MTA's but I didn't have much trouble getting postfix set up and running.

lussumo, what did you end up doing? I'm going through the same struggle right now. I'd like to learn Exim because it's the default on Debian and also on cPanel. But wow! What a mountain of docs without a quick start guide anywhere to be found :(

Any ideas? Suggestions?
