Setting up DB for Coppermine

Setting up Coppermine with LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP) on a Knoppix box.

I'm trying to configure it under a web browser and I keep getting this error:

[error]
Could not create a mySQL connection, please check the SQL values entered

MySQL error was : Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' (111)

[/error]

I haven't messed with MySQL in awhlle, so I don't know if I have to setup a DB, a user or what.

So hopefully someone who has this up in the past and offer advise.

thanks

I'm not great with mysql but may be able to get you started ...
First as root;
$ /usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h localhost password 'new-password' replace new-password with the password you want to use and write it down somewhere you don't want to lose it.
mysql -u root -h localhost -p
mysql> quit
Bye
One more time just to make sure it works;
$ mysql -u root -h localhost -p
Enter password:
Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Commands end with ; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 7 to server version: 4.0.24-debug

Type 'help;' or '\h' for help. Type '\c' to clear the buffer.

mysql>quit
what happens?
Here is a great guide, its for gentoo but the mysql stuff is the same;

Here is another more general guide;

Coppermine may come with a .sql file to create the tables for the database,
phpmyadmin works good for this.
Any more specific ? ask away ...

Thanks for your help with this.

I need to set up a DB for coppermine, so I created one with mysql and called it coppermine.

Now it runs fine, BUT, I didn't install GD or ImageMagick.

Will their be any problems installing this now that coppermine is up and runnin'?

thanks

I'm not sure with coppermine but with some others you can go to the configuration page and specify the path to whatever you want to use.I know imagemajic is good its what I use, here is that page;
http://abbottdavid.no-ip.info/gallery2/main.php
I think you should be able to install it and then change the configuration...
look at 2005-07-17-121850_1280x1024_scrot.png press + to see it better ...
