Setting up BIND DNS server on Ubuntu server

Hello Friends,

I am trying to set up bind DNS server on Ubuntu server edition and this is a pitched battle where I have already spent hours. Well, the issue is that I have to provide BIND DNS server to 4 other clients and it's killing me. Can someone help me on this. Any help will be appreciated. Also, one more thing before setting up BIND DNS, I tried to secure my server by using SHOREWELL firewall and after installing it, it asked me to change the value from 0 to 1. Now, I have changed the value and I am wondering is that already running. Also,
I am not sure how to use iptables, like, I have two ethernet ports eth0 for the internet and eth1 for local network. I want to stop local traffic from accessing the internet. Any ideas. Looking for some help.

Thanks

Tanu

So you want to run a DNS server and make this box a gateway for the other boxes?
I don't know squat about shorewall but I have some iptables scripts I can post if need be. You can also just try http://easyfwgen.morizot.net/gen/ (found it off lq forum) looks easy enough.
For DNS you will need to allow outbound and inbound UDP port 53. Are these clients outside your network or in?

Hello

I have to set it as gateway, but, other clients have DNS nameservers installed. I will have their FQDN of their networks and then, they can route traffic to each other and I will help them do that. But, I cannot allow these guys to go out onto the internet. They have to stay in the network without going out into the world. So, thats why I have to apply iptables at that interface where these guys come into my network.
Any idea
