setting the default x11 font

OK, I figured out to use xfontsel to pick a cool font for X. But I can't figure out how to make this font default. If someone could tell me, that'd be great. Thanx

Try .xinitrc

I suggest that you try placing your xfontsel in /home/user/.xinitrc and in /root/.xinitrc.

You might be able to put it in /etc/profile.local.

My uncertainty comes from the fact that Red Hat and SuSE do not always use these files in the same way.

you mean, place the actual application in those directories, or put the font name in them? I'm confused :)

Oops

I guess that I am confused also. I meant for you to issue the xfontsel command before starting X. When I checked man xfontsel again I saw that xfontsel is a gui command so issuing fontsel from within a script is not the thing to do. Sorry.

k4zau: can you post up any instructions on HOW you changed the FONT???

i'm a newbie to linux. thanks.

s7nner:

I didn't actually change the font used by the system. If you are wondering how to change the font displayed in xfontsel, click on "fndry" with your mouse and select from the list. Then click on each category from left to right. Just click on different selections until you produce a font you like.
