setting bg in Flux (Chad pay attention :) )

Hi there!

Smth happened - I cannot set my bg in FLux:
I put in some style
rootCommand: bsetbg -full ~/.fluxbox/backgrounds/backgroung.jpg
and nothing works :(
I have read all FAQ's
any another ideas?

MasterC 09-28-2002 06:12 AM

Did something work before? Also, is the image that you want as your bg really located in .fluxbox or some other directory?

nautilus_1987 09-28-2002 06:22 AM

I really don't remember!!!
the image I want to set is in /root/.fluxbox/background/darksystem.jpg

MasterC 09-28-2002 06:36 AM

And are you root? You shouldn't be! :D You root surfer! Just kidding buddy. If you know the image is located in, say /home/images/chad.png then use that in your entry:
rootCommand: bsetbg -full /home/images/chad.png

And that's just an example, but shows what I am saying.

Cool

nautilus_1987 09-28-2002 06:40 AM

I should put it in init or style?

MasterC 09-28-2002 06:42 AM

You know, I am pretty sure I have mine in init. Try it in init.

Cool

nautilus_1987 09-28-2002 06:47 AM

Damn.......It doesn't work...........

MasterC 09-28-2002 06:49 AM

If it's in /root, and you aren't root, then move the image, or rather, copy the image to a location that your user can use it.

MasterC 09-28-2002 06:51 AM

Place this line in your ~/.fluxbox/init file:
session.screen0.rootCommand: bsetbg -f /home/images/image.png

Replacing /home/images/image.png with the location of the file. Remember it has to be a place accessible by the user in question.

Cool

Wait a second ... is there some different if I will put a jpg image or png? Mine is in jpg :)

MasterC 09-28-2002 07:08 AM

I doubt it. I am just partial to png's. Better quality for the compression.

Cool

MasterC 09-28-2002 07:19 AM

Did the plug above not work when placing it in .fluxbox/init?

nautilus_1987 09-28-2002 07:20 AM

once again nothing works.......I think it is time for rest.....In 2 back to Linux and I will try to configure background in Flux again
thnx for help Chad!

MasterC 09-28-2002 07:20 AM

I got that straight from the flux docs. It's what I used, and it worked first time up. Although if you are doing this as root, that might be your pull. Maybe root can't set bg's. Also, might be a permissions problem, that's what keeps coming back to me, unless of course you are root.

Cool

MasterC 09-28-2002 07:21 AM

No problem ;)

Good luck :)

nautilus_1987 09-28-2002 07:23 AM

uh..I have forgotten to say that all other styles work, where bg is set by command like this: bsetroot -gradient interlacedflatcrossdiagonalgradient -from rgb:4c/04/03 -to black
but not path...

nautilus_1987 09-28-2002 07:25 AM

damn....my user isn't even configured to start Flux.... oh how much work is waiting for me :)

nautilus_1987 09-28-2002 07:30 AM

Wow...that thing worked with normal user!!!
but seems not to be wotking with root

nautilus_1987 09-28-2002 09:26 AM

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chad I have finally made it!!! I think you maybe interested in what I did:
Flux creates new file called 'bsetbg' in /user/.fluxbox, when it is loaded for the first time by normal user. So I had to copy that file to /root/.fluxbox/.. And everything worked. Now you can my see new screenshot!
:D

MasterC 09-28-2002 05:23 PM

Sweet, I am glad you got it working buddy ;)

neo77777 09-29-2002 12:33 AM

Did you revise the ownership of the image? Could be still root, change it with chown

nautilus_1987 09-29-2002 04:25 AM

I am sorry....but what do you mean Neo?

nautilus_1987 09-29-2002 04:40 AM

Guys I had to rewrite my init file and now one problem appeared:
Once again I have some rectangle hanging over window - it is something like bookmark, I just don't know how to say it in english because my Flux is in other language :) What file should be dited to remove that bookmark ?

MasterC 09-29-2002 05:56 AM

Tabs I think is what you mean.

You can modify that by just going to your flux menu, and it's in the settings area. Uncheck the choice for tabs.

Cool

nautilus_1987 09-29-2002 07:51 AM

That works...cool, thnx Chad :D

MasterC 09-29-2002 07:58 AM

Cool no problem buddy ;)
