seti@HOME followed instructions, permssion denied

I have gone through the posts here that I could find. So let me jump to the problem.

I run this and this is what I get in console as both su and normal user. I have this installed in my home directory.

'path to seti'$ chmod -x xsetiathome
'path to seti'$ ./xsetiathome
bash: ./xsetiathome: Permission denied

I tried this also,

[path to seti]$ chmod -x setiathome
[path to seti]$ ./setiathome
bash: ./setiathome: Permission denied

What am I missing? Thanks

Ok, it is not the software I am installing. I just tried folding@home with the same result,

"[path to folding]$ chmod -x FAH502-Linux.exe
[path to folding]$ ./FAH502-Linux.exe
bash: ./FAH502-Linux.exe: Permission denied
"

I think I need to set something else up but I don't know what.

Ok, figured out one problem. I did everything correctly, except, uhm duh, lol, I forgot to make it exacutable. Both Fold@home and Seti@home work. But what doesn't work is xsetiathome. I get this message.

"./xsetiathome
Warning: Cannot convert string "doneB" to type Widget
Shared memory segment doesn't exist. errno=2
Couldn't attach to the science process!
"
