I want to set up my Fedora Core 3 dedicated server to act also as a proxy server so that I can use it to bypass some of the filterings that go on at the college I work at. Anybody know whow I can do this?
ah, but it's not going to. the server is at my house on a seperate internet connection. I've used proxies to circumvent before seuccesfuly, but they keep geting shut down. So, I want to set one up for myself.

Assuming you can connect out on 22 (and if you can't, just bind SSH to some other port that you can connect to), just do what daft mentions above:

Set up a proxy (Junkbuster will cut down on the banner ads and related garbage nicely) and tell it to bind to 8080, then just
are there any alternatives to junkbuster or is it the only paractical option? I jsut checked my apt repositories and it suggested privoxy instead of junkbuster. any good?

okay, it seems that privoxy is a descendant of junkbuster. I got it set up and am using an SSH tunnel (i feel so sneaky!), so I'm happy with it. thanks for all the help, I might just reroute all my computers at home through it so I can filter crap out Thanks all!
