server won't boot after ups software install
Installed opti safe UPS control software and now suse server won't boot. Called Opti and tier 1 informed me this version 3.1 is "bad", still waiting for call back from tier 2.
During boot, right after "INIT: version 2.85 booting"
promted to enter userlevel
tried 1, 3, and 5 each time get
"/usr/bin/dnpower/onevent: cannot execute binary file"
INIT: no procceses left in this runlevel
and then it just stalls.
/usr/bin/dnpower is directory created during opti install. Onevent is part of their program.
In booting to Recover System mode (suse enterprise 9) I am unable to see or find the /usr/bin/dnpower directory, as if it doesn't exist. I also looked for similar in /usr/bin (in case of typo) and there is nothing.
Does anyone know what boot script could be referencing this and how I could get rid of it so I can boot again? I looked at many, many of them within /etc/init.d and don't see any reference to directory or file.
I really appreciate any help, I am so new and so lost.

Check in your /etc/inittab file.

sorry to revive this thread, but I just encountered this and found the thread on google.
The installation of the UPS software is written improperly and overwrites /etc/inittab rather than just editing it to do what it wants. To fix this, you need to find a copy of the default inittab for your system so that you can replace it.
On debian 3.1, the default one was 69 lines long. The one that was there after installing the UPS software was only 3 lines, each having something to do with the dnpower software. I'm going to contact their support and make sure they're aware of this
Again, I'm only reviving this thread because it is one of the few (less than 5 ) results for dnpower, boot, inittab and a jumble of other words related to this problem, so I figured it'd be nice to have it updated so people can see what the problem is.

again, sorry to revive this thread, but it is worth doing so to report that the company has fixed this problem with their software and there is a new version available for download which works, rather than just destroy the system
