the maching i'm having trouble with is running RedHat 9 with a pentium 2 processor and 256 megs of ram.
About a week ago, my webserver crashed, so i did a fresh install of redhat thinking that would solve everything...wrong. The crash was apparently because a certain (rather important) file went missing, i figured someone had done it just to piss me off. After the fresh install, i could no connect to the internet (sbc dsl). everything was set up the way it was before the crash. I was a little upset, so i put in a new hard drive, a new NIC and upgraded the ram to the current 256 megs. Same problem, thinking it may have been a bad install, and wanting to try something new, i put mandrake on it, still cant connect. I went back to redhat, not that it solved anything, and I am looking for whatever help i can get.
Thanks in advance,
~Ben
If you would be a little more specific, that would be helpful. What hardware are you using? (including motherboard, if possible) How do you connect to the Internet? (I know DSL, but is it PPPoE or...?)
To connect to the internet i'm using the network manager in RedHat9. For hardware, the old NIC is a 3com and the new one is one that came with a compaq. I'm not sure what the Motherboard is, it came with a Gateway with a P2 processor (got it for free )
Next step is to buy a new system and build it myself, which will solve all my problems, but will cost more than i'd like to spend
Thanks,
~Ben
